WHAT REALLY IS SWAN?
Project SWAN is the south Westminster area network an initiative to create a district heating system. The project is being undertaken and managed by JG Partnership limited. in order to reach the carbon net zero and making London a more sustainable city in a step towards a greener environment for the future.

The district energy network would bring significant economic and environmental benefits to this area. It would enable a reduction in CO2 emissions from heating and cooling of up to 90% while cutting the cost spent on heating and cooling by commercial and residential buildings annually.

As Britain continues to de-carbonate cities and their energy networks; the heat pump will step in by providing the fastest route to zero carbon heating. By using an array of heat pumps we can ensure both the current natural environment and displaced energy from the urban environment is used by heat pumps such as water source heat pumps (WSHP's) allowing them to be as versatile as possible to cater to the geography and engineering of the city allowing us to reach the British energy efficient and sustainable vision for the future.

How will the Westminster Estate achieve Net Zero Carbon?

Shown below are a handful of methods Project SWAN (South Westminster Area Network) intends to integrate into London in which we can reach carbon net zero. Through the introduction of heat pumps along with utilising the natural environment and recycling displaced or wasted energy of the city we can implement a new age of green heating into Westminster.
Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are one of our major installations that will be implemented in the district heating network for green heating. Heat pumps are efficient because they move heat rather than generating it directly, making them a more environmentally friendly option for heating and cooling compared to traditional heating systems like furnaces or electric heaters. They can also provide both heating and cooling, offering year-round comfort in homes and buildings.

Utilizing the River Thames

Heat pumps are a versatile heating system that can be placed in water they can extract heat from a water source, such as a lake or river. water source heat pumps (WSHP's) also tend to offer a more stable and consistent performance because water temperatures are generally more stable than air temperatures making them more efficient and reliable overall compared to regular heat pumps. Due to its efficiency, non-invasive nature and use of natural surroundings project SWAN has looked into Installing a large-scale Water Source Heat Pump plant for the purpose of a heating and cooling network, utilising the River Thames, in the Westminster area.
London underground ventilation system?
Additionally SWAN has made plans on the ability for heat pumps to utilise displaced energy from TfL ventilation shaft waste. TfL published a Prior Information Notice making it known of their ventilation shaft waste heat recovery opportunities. Ventilation shafts such as Moreton Terrace, Pimlico or Palace Street, Victoria are examples in which heat pumps could be implemented to utilise this displaced energy for the district heating network.

JG Partnership limited has had a long and strong relationship with the London HQ (heritage quarter) an organisation branching all over, London HQ comprises four of Westminster’s Business Improvement Districts.
Business improvement districts (BID's) are areas in which businesses come together to invest in initiatives and services aimed at improving the economic vitality and attractiveness of the area.
Project SWAN is by far one of the largest BID initiatives and strategies in enhancing the urban landscape that London HQ has undertaken within the Westminster area.
This relationship has allowed the partnership to gain a true connection with the council, commercial and residential communities of the Westminster area. Helping us to understand their yearning for sustainable change and security in their energy network.
